Our species have evolved over many thousands of years, yet the modern world is very, very new. The problem we face is that we are still driven by those systems that were evolved to keep us safe in the jungle and out on the wild prairies.

Be constantly aware of evolutionary forces. We are not long out of the jungle and primitive drives still rule much of what we do, even if we do not realize this. You can also provoke these drives in other people when seeking direct action rather than thoughtful changing of minds. Beware in this of setting off responses that are difficult to manage.
