Watch a funny movie. Turn on the TV and find something amusing. Go to a comedy show. Just go and find something that amuses and have a good laugh (or even an inner smile).

It is not important, by the way, that you find everything funny (in fact very few do) and you should not watch things that do not make you laugh. If old silent movies make you split your sides with laughter, then go for these. If modern stand-up is good for you, then find a comedy club.

Movies, TV and other comedy is easy to access and so makes for an easy treatment of stress that we can all use. You can use it when you are ill, at home in evening or when you are going out for some fun.

In research at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, when subjects were showed scenes from stressful movies (like Saving Private Ryan) and their blood flow dropped by around 35%. When the subjects were shown funny films such as When Harry Met Sally, their blood flow rose by 22%.
