Description

A stroke is the bursting of a blood vessel in the brain.

Stroke victims are twice as likely as others to suffer from depression. Of course having a stroke is pretty depressing but this rate is higher than might be expected.

About one in five people experiences emotionalism, with a heightened tendency to cry or laugh.

Discussion

Stroke accounts for 10-12 per cent of all deaths. It rises exponentially with age, from about 0.03% in one's 30s and 40s to 3% in the 80s and 90s, with a high risk of recurrence.

Stroke is related to weight, high blood pressure and serum cholesterol levels plus smoking
sodium and alcohol intake.
