DescriptionGlossolalia is fabricated, meaningless speech. ExampleOh, glaffobalbaness! The fliggit is fanging in the frubor, you knowsta! Rangliness is more famish that you might expact. An old children's TV show in the UK, call 'Bill and Ben' had puppets saying things like 'Flobbodop, little weeed!' DiscussionGlossolalia is a very onomatopoeic word, sounding like words that are using glossolalia. It sounds important and meaningful, yet meaningless at the same time. Glossolalia is like this: the words sounds realistic but have no real meaning. The purpose of glossolalia can be as a fill-in for acting, where the actions are more important than the words. Rowan Atikinson, in his 'Mr Bean' shows often used glossolalia to sound like he is saying something. This 'verbal miming' increased his appeal in many different countries without need for dubbing or subtitles. People also sometimes take to glossolalia when they run out of things to say, particularly in the middle of a sentence. Classification: Meaning See also |
