Description

Find ways of reminding yourself of why you can and should be happy. Here's a few examples:

  • Keep a picture of loved ones in your wallet and sometimes take it out and remember why you love them.
  • Think of the people in the world who are not as lucky as you. Anyone who is reading this is one of the lucky ones.
  • Think about your positive plans. Remind yourself of the good things to come.
  • Remember times in the past you have been happy. Remember what made you happy and the feelings of becoming happy.
  • Remind yourself to take time for your self. Stop and 'smell the roses'. In working hard it is easy to miss the beauty that is all around us.
  • Also remind yourself to do those things that make you happy and perhaps which you have been going to do for a long time.

Discussion

In striving to survive, we often forget all the many reasons we have to be grateful. We have friends and family who like us. There are also many people in the world who are worse off than us.

In the slough of today's unhappiness, we forget that we have been happy in the past and that we have more control over our lives than we perhaps think we have. One thing we all have is free will and the power to choose.

Some people like to leave the best until last, which can be a good strategy as it lets you enjoy the anticipated pleasure of the future. However, if you keep doing this, all you will have is anticipation. Don't procrastinate good things for too long.
