Game design is a discipline that is important not only in the multi-billion-dollar gaming industry but can also be useful in business and education, where 'gamification' is the application of game principles in non-traditional-game fields. When people play games they are engaged, motivated and learn rapidly, which makes an understanding of the principles useful in all kinds of motivational contexts.
