One of our basic needs is for a sense of control, which we gain by seeking to predict the future. In making predictions, we often need to have a good understanding of statistics. Although we think we are good at statistical assessment, we are usually very bad at it.

• Gambler's Fallacy: Chance can be predicted.
• Repetition: Repeating something makes it more true.
