Going back for less

I recently decided to buy a tripod for my camera and went for a wander in London in search of something suitable. To cut a long story short, I ended up in a second-hand camera shop where I came across a Benbo tripod. I'd never heard of them before and was amazed at its flexibility. Looks good, I thought, and bought it.

The tripod had a ball socket but needed a quick-release head so I headed to a nearby photo shop, where I found they had the same tripod for only £5 more. 'Bother' I thought (or something like that). And then I thought 'Hang on, you're Mr. Changing Minds!' So I marched back to the second hand shop plotting what to say and how to escalate if they didn't collaborate.

My goal was either to negotiate a reduction or go for a total refund. I always approach these things with a polite and assertive manner, keeping the heavier guns for the offchance that they don't want to play ball. As it was, I leaned on the counter and explained the situation and they collaborated iin a negotiation whereby I got a £40 reduction.

The bottom line: it's not over even after it's over. If you've had a bad bargain then pluck up courage and go back for less!
