Childhood memories

A friend of my daughter stayed for the weekend and she is taking an intelligent look at who she is. Like many of us, she has difficult childhood memories and we were discussing the question of what one can do about them.

Whilst disturbing memories can be hidden and distorted, what is often not realized is that the discomfort in a memory does not lie in the event itself, but the interpretation, the meaning we created when the event occurred, and hence the emotions that were generated.

Thus, when we recall a childhood memory, we also re-experience the child's interpretation and emotions.

Effecting a 'cure' can simply means understanding this, going back and looking down on that poor child misunderstanding, going in and understanding and feeling in the right way so when you come back out again you can see the effect, positively rippling forward, correcting everything back to today.
