Bailey's 1, Sleep 0

Sshh. It's 3:07 am. I'm awake and I shouldn't be. My sleep pattern tonight got tripped up by a single Bailey's (a coffee-and-cream liqueur).

At ten o'clock, when I usually go to bed, my wife said "Do you want a Bailey's?" I refused, saying that it was my bedtime. She looked at me and smiled. "Do you want a Bailey's?" she repeated. I caved in. "Go on then." I said. And so I got to bed late, missed my nod-off period, and now am blogging on my PDA in the hope that my conscious mind will switch off soon, after a little light thinking.

And I get up at 5:30 am for the commute into London. Errgh...it's going to be a dozy day.

So what happened? How did my wife (bless her cotton socks) persuade me to have a drink when I should have been on my way to bed?

First of all, I signaled to her that I actually would like a drink with her. When she asked, I did not say 'No'. Instead, I said that it was time for bed. I also hesitated very slightly before responding, which I'm sure she also picked up.

So she did a 'broken record' and repeated the question.

And here I am. Wide awake.

Oh well.
