DescriptionFind those things that you do not need, and just let them go. These can be physical things that clutter up your space. Perhaps they are things you once used and are a bit loathe to get rid of. Perhaps they are things that 'might be useful' sometime, though sometimes often never happens. Give them away. Throw them away. If you must, put them into storage. Just de-clutter your space. You can also let go of things in your head. Perhaps they are painful old memories or recurring worries. Yet thinking about these does nothing for you. So let them go. Say goodbye to them and show them the door. The less you need, the less you have to interrupt you and provoke anxiety. So the happier you can be. DiscussionWhen we use things, we get used to them. They creep into our lives and hang themselves on our identity, even when they have little positive value for us. Things we have, whether physical or mental, occupy space and take up our time, while not being worth this cost. If we can let them go, our net happiness can increase. One of the reasons we cannot let go is the endowment effect, whereby we value things we own more than others. This can be seen when trying to sell an old car and being appalled at the low price that people offer us. See also
