DiscussionIn modern day, we often still used reward and punishment, even though it is very easy to get this wrong, for example when rewards lead to people acting because they want the reward not because they believe in your cause. Yet why is it still used? Because it is easy. It takes greater skill to inspire people and change what they believe and what makes them passionate. A very simple alternative method is to play to status needs, assigning those who show the greatest soldiering ability to the higher status. This lets people know what you want and offers a very social reward of superiority. Note that nobody is punished. Those with lower achievement simply get a lower reward. In this way you avoid resentment and only create aspiration as people seek to be promoted to the next level. See alsoLeadership, Human Resources, Motivation,
